Oak tables Wim & Mirjam

As a finishing touch to the luxurious homely feeling of Wim and Mirjam, I was asked to work out a set of tables that fit with the new interior concept. Next to aesthetics and color, I also set out to explore the best functional shape of the table top, together with the right table leg (so Wim would never bounce his feet again while eating ;-))

  • year: 2022
aim: detail design and production of a set of two tables in line with new interior concept
    wishes: tick oak table top,
design values: functional and aesthetically pleasing, robust
partner: interieur makers Rotterdam (CNC milling)

  • European Oak, metal frames

  • See below :)

Study of table legs in combination with 'Danish oval' shape

A detailed study of the table top’s shape was done in order to find the right balance between functionality and aesthetics. This led to a unique shape inspired by classic ‘Danish oval’ that I was keen to materialize into a 3 meter long table top.

“The tables should become the finishing touch to a new luxurious homey feeling”

CNC cut parts of oak panel

Applying varnish after staining

For production, two large wooden panels from European oak were cut using CNC milling. The handwork was done in order to assemble and create fine details: sanding, edge milling... I got lost in the details, but happily woke up to a super sexy sanded, stained and varnished table after some time.

The result is a set of tables. A strong eye-catching 3 meter long diner table, with a little brother kitchen table. The dining table can easily host eight people for a cozy (gezellig!) dinner. Leg space is optimized by using a black steel X-shaped leg. The smaller kitchen table offers enough space for breakfast or a coffee, while leaving sufficient room in the kitchen for the cooking.
